đ Hi, Podsky!
A startup called Particle spent the past few weeks transcribing more than 130,000 podcasts and turning the whole catalogue into something an AI agent can query. The biggest paying customers so far aren't journalists or fans. They're hedge funds. Your last ad read is now a searchable, timestamped data point for someone building a trading model, and nobody asked your permission first.
If this is your first time here, welcome. Over 1,000 podcast industry readers already call Podwires home. Join them here.

Big week. Letâs get into it.
đď¸ Today, we have exclusive insights on:
An AI startup has made 130,000 podcasts, ad reads and all, searchable by hedge funds and AI agents, whether the shows opted in or not
Signal Hillâs new ad-effectiveness benchmarks say video beats audio on purchase intent, and self-improvement shows outperform every other category across the whole funnel
Netflix renewed its entire original podcast slate and lined up two hosts, Katt Williams and Harlan Coben, whoâve never made a podcast before
Plus five quick hits: a data journalist's political show gets a second life at Crooked Media, a beauty-adjacent creator network signs four new hosts, Audacy's sports and news stations land on SiriusXM, Ina Garten pours cocktails into a new Vox Media podcast, and the IAB folds its podcast upfront into a new creator-focused week.

AI & DISCOVERY
An AI startup just made every popular podcast searchable, and hedge funds are the top customers
Podwires Rundown: Particleâs new Radar platform transcribes and indexes more than 130,000 podcasts for AI agents to query, and the highest-paying customers arenât researchers or fans. Theyâre hedge funds.
Source: TechCrunch, Sarah Perez (Aug. 26, 2026), reporting on Radarâs launch based on an interview with Particle co-founder and CEO Sara Beykpour. Particle built Radar to sell, so its own description of demand (âhedge funds have been the highest-volume customersâ) is a company talking its book about who wants this product, not an independent survey of the market.
Key Points:
Radar transcribes and analyses more than 130,000 podcasts, including all of Appleâs Top 200 across 135 categories, and adds roughly 20,000 new episodes to its index every day.
The transcripts include speaker labels and entity tracking, so the tool understands which people, companies, brands and products get mentioned, and when.
Thereâs a dedicated ads search engine inside Radar that can find every episode where a given company advertised and chart how that spending trends over time.
Pricing starts at $29 a month for an individual seat. The real business, per Beykpour, is the API and MCP layer that lets AI agents query the whole catalogue programmatically.
Exa, a search API provider used by other AI agents, is already a Radar partner, which means a podcastâs content can now surface inside tools a producer has never heard of and never agreed to.
Why It Matters
Podcast audio used to be effectively invisible to the automated web. Text got crawled, transcribed, indexed and repurposed constantly; audio just sat there unless a human bothered to listen. Radar closes that gap in one move, and it did it without asking any of the 130,000 shows in its index for permission. Thatâs not illegal. RSS feeds are public, and nothing here breaches a paywall. It does mean an ad read you recorded in March is now a permanent, searchable, timestamped record that a strangerâs trading model can pull up in a fraction of a second.
The hedge fund detail is the tell. Financial firms donât pay for podcast search out of curiosity. They pay because an executive said something on a niche interview show that moved a stock, or because tracking which companies are advertising where is a genuine signal about corporate spending. Your show doesnât need a million downloads to matter to that kind of customer. It just needs the right guest saying the wrong thing on the record.
The Big Picture
For Independent Producers: Search your own showâs name and your biggest guestsâ names in Radarâs web interface and see what comes up. If an ad read or an offhand comment is sitting there more prominently than youâd like, thatâs useful to know before a sponsor or a journalist finds it first. Itâs also worth reading your hosting platformâs distribution terms again, since this kind of downstream indexing is exactly what a broad RSS license already permits.
For the Industry: Expect more entrants chasing the same audio-intelligence layer Radar is building, and expect ad-tech buyers to start using tools like this to verify whether a sponsorâs read actually ran, rather than trusting a report from the show.

AD EFFECTIVENESS
New benchmark data says video podcasts beat audio on purchase intent, and one genre lifts the whole funnel
Podwires Rundown: Signal Hill Insights just published the first cut of a benchmark project built from nearly 39,000 survey responses, and the early numbers say video ads move buying intent more than audio does, while education and self-improvement shows are the only category that lifts a listenerâs brand familiarity, consideration and purchase intent all at once.
Source: RAIN News (Aug. 27, 2026), reporting Signal Hill Insightsâ own benchmark release. Signal Hill sells podcast audience research, so a report proving podcast ads work in measurable, sellable ways also supports its own business. The underlying survey, fielded across 2024 and 2025 with almost 39,000 respondents exposed to pre-roll, mid-roll or post-roll ads, is real fieldwork; the framing around it is a research vendorâs.
Key Points:
The release published this week represents the first extrapolation from a larger project, drawing on 24,922 of the nearly 39,000 total survey respondents.
Women showed slightly stronger brand-lift responses than men across the measured categories.
Video ads outperformed audio-only ads on the funnelâs later stages, particularly purchase intent, which cuts against the assumption that a familiar voice in someoneâs ears is automatically more persuasive than a face on a screen.
Education and self-improvement podcasts were the only genre Signal Hill measured that lifted brand familiarity, consideration and purchase intent together. Most other categories moved one or two of those metrics, not all three.
Signal Hill published its source presentation publicly rather than gating it behind a sales call, which is worth noting given how much industry research stays locked behind a âcontact us.â
Why It Matters
Every producer with a self-improvement or education-adjacent show just got a specific, sourced number to put in front of a sponsor instead of a download count. Thatâs rare. Most podcast research talks about the medium in general terms; this report breaks lift out by category, and one category happens to outperform the field on every measure that matters to a media buyer.
The video finding deserves a caveat Signal Hill didnât emphasise: this measures ad persuasion, not whether a show should exist in video at all. A tightly scripted daily audio show and a loosely structured video interview are different products, and this data doesnât say every audio-only producer needs a camera. It says that if youâre already weighing whether to add video, the ad-performance case just got stronger, which is a narrower and more useful claim than âvideo wins.â
The Big Picture
For Independent Producers: If your show sits anywhere near education, coaching or self-improvement, pull this reportâs category breakdown into your next sponsor pitch. A stat like âmy genre lifts the full funnel, not just awarenessâ gives a media buyer something concrete to act on. If youâre audio-only and weighing a video add purely for ad revenue, this is the first real data point in favour of doing it.
For the Industry: Watch whether Signal Hillâs fuller dataset, due once all nearly 39,000 responses are processed, holds up the video and education findings at scale. A benchmark built on two-thirds of its eventual sample is directionally useful, not final.

STREAMING INVESTMENT
Netflix renewed every podcast it has and signed two first-timers who've never made one before
Podwires Rundown: Netflix is renewing its entire original podcast lineup for more episodes and adding new shows from comedian Katt Williams and novelist Harlan Coben, neither of whom has hosted a podcast before, on top of pulling in The Pivot Podcast and OUTLORE from outside producers.
Source: Netflixâs own newsroom (Sept. 1, 2026). This is a company announcing its own renewals and new signings, so the framing, âmembers want more,â is Netflix selling its own strategy back to the audience itâs counting on to prove that strategy right.
Key Points:
Every existing Netflix original podcast gets more episodes, including Murder with My Husband, The Pete Davidson Show, Shut Up Evan, The Puzzle Room with David Kwong and Allegedly with Ellison Barber.
Katt Williams and Harlan Coben are both making their podcast debuts with Netflix. Coben told the company he wants to explore âthe plot twist that formed youâ with guests ranging from writers to athletes.
Netflix is also bringing in shows it didnât produce: The Pivot Podcast, hosted by former NFL players Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor and Channing Crowder, joins the platform September 8, and true-crime storyteller Eleanor Nealeâs OUTLORE arrives September 27.
New Netflix-exclusive originals span true crime, sports, comedy and food, including The Rotten Files with Stephanie Soo and Wishbone Kitchen with Meredith Hayden.
Netflix says it now carries more than 60 podcasts, with the catalogue still growing.
Why It Matters
Renewing an existing slate is a maintenance decision. Signing two people with zero podcast experience, purely on the strength of their existing fame, is a bet that the format itself now carries weight independent of whoâs already good at it. Coben doesnât need to have hosted anything before if Netflix believes the platform, the production support and his existing audience will carry the show regardless.
Pulling in The Pivot and OUTLORE matters more for the indie end of the industry than the celebrity signings do. Both were built outside Netflix, by people who didnât start with a studio deal. Thatâs the more realistic path for most producers reading this than âget discovered and handed an original,â and itâs worth watching whether Netflixâs terms for bringing in an existing hit differ from what it offers a first-time celebrity host.
The Big Picture
For Independent Producers: Nobody reading this is getting Netflixâs renewal budget, but the genre mix itâs investing in, true crime, sports, comedy, food, storytelling, is a real signal about where a major platform sees durable audience demand. If your show sits in one of those lanes, thatâs a data point for your own sponsor and platform conversations, not a reason to expect a call from Netflix.
For the Industry: Watch how The Pivotâs and OUTLOREâs specific deal terms leak out over the next month. A licensing or platform arrangement for an established outside hit is a more realistic template for the rest of the industry than an original built from scratch for a celebrity with no podcast history.

⥠RAPID FIRE
Podium signs four new creator-led shows, including a dietitianâs food podcast. A month after The Roost rebranded as Podium, the network added Abbey Sharpâs Bite Back, which has drawn 450,000 downloads in its first year, plus three more creator-hosted shows. (Deadline)
Ina Garten is launching a cocktail-hour podcast with Vox Media. âHappy Hour With Ina Gartenâ debuts September 16 with Whole Foods, Philadelphia Cream Cheese and Talbots already signed as launch sponsors, before a single episode has aired. (Inside Radio)
Australiaâs biggest podcast network just switched its entire tech stack to a video-first host. LiSTNR is moving more than 150 shows off Tritonâs Omny Studio and onto Flightcast, the platform Steven Bartlett co-founded, in whatâs Flightcastâs largest deal since launching last October. Worth watching as a signal of where a major network is willing to bet its distribution. (Mumbrella)
CBCâs fall slate leans hard into true crime and investigative audio. Canadaâs public broadcaster is launching a new Adrienne Arsenault-hosted series on missing Black boys in Ontario and a new Uncover season on an Olympian-turned-alleged-cartel-boss, alongside new hosts on two existing shows. A reminder that public broadcasters are chasing the same true-crime audience as the independents. (CBC Media Centre, Sept. 1)
Lorraine Kelly becomes the new host of Sagaâs âExperience is Everythingâ podcast. The UK TV presenter takes over the interview show from the late Dame Jenni Murray, produced by Podmasters for Saga, the over-50s membership brand. A clean example of a commerce brand building an audio product around a recognisable host rather than buying ads on someone elseâs show. (Saga/Podmasters, Sept. 1)

THATâS WRAP
If your show sits anywhere near education or self-improvement, pull Signal Hill's category numbers into your next sponsor pitch before someone else in your genre gets there first.
